Newsletter Five August 20, 2004 Dear Friends, This month, I write just a brief update to stay in contact. The past month has been a whirlwind. I spent some wonderful time at home in Chicago at the beginning of July, and five days after I had returned to Tegucigalpa, I jumped on a plane to fly home for a family emergency. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. I finally returned to Honduras and several days later, helped to welcome the ICLH's first visiting delegation from the States. We had a challenging, but excellent experience. We headed out to the small community in Olancho, San Nicolas, to work on a building project and assist with community programing with youth, women and kids. The Olancho community opened its doors and hearts to the strangers from the States, and I think both groups were a little transformed. In San Nicolas, the group spent a great deal of time discussing the phenomenon of immigration. San Nicolas is a complex community and no one in the community is untouched by the heartbreaking reality of economic hardship or social injustice. Thus, every family is effected by the reality of thousands of Hondurans that emigrate for the united States looking for a way to financially support their loved ones. I am including the address of a website in this email. http://www.latimes.com/news/specials/enrique/ This is the website for the Pulitzer Prize winning special the LA Times published this past year about a young Honduran, Enrique, and his journey to the states. The story and the photos are fantastic. I wish I could say it was uncommon. Please, check it out. Life continues to be busy here in Honduras. We have several workshops in the planning, one for couples, another for youth leaders, and still another about Lutheran identity. Please remember in your prayers the Honduran families effected by immigration. In peace, Lindsay Iglesia Cristiana Luterana de Honduras Tegucigalpa, Honduras |
